Arches and Moab

Flash back 17 years, and John and I were on our first road trip together adventuring through Washington, Wyoming, Colorado, Utah, Arizona and Nevada, with a side trip to Maine via plane!

We stopped in Moab and Arches NP on that trip. It was awesome then, and even better getting to show the kids and Poppy this area!

So after leaving Springville/Provo, we headed south. The route was breathtaking!

We made it to Moab in no time and got set up at Spanish Trail RV Park just south of down town.

After a swim in the pool and an awesome steak dinner, we hit the bike trail just north of town and headed to the entrance of the park for a quick look.

It was super hot in Moab, so drinking lots of water and planning activities around peak hours of heat was important!

The following day (9/9) we headed into the park via car and began exploring the landscape!

I love panoramas, and think this one just might make our cover photo next!!

Balanced Rock is just amazing!

And the kids (and Poppy) loved the ability to climb and explore!

We left this place and ventured out to see Delicate Arch (from afar). We weren’t up for a 3 mile (one way) hike in 100 degree weather, but the view was still stunning, and the .5 moderate difficulty hike to the upper viewpoint still kicked our butts!

After a quick visit to Devils Garden (mostly to fill our water bottles) we headed back through the park to Windows and Turret Arches.

These were great because everyone can walk right up into them and get a better feel for their magnitude!

This pillar is by Double Arches (across from Windows), and just made me chuckle a little!

We left after four hours of exploring, tired, sweaty, hungry and slightly dehydrated but satisfied in our adventure!

So we headed to Eddie McStiff’s for dinner, then headed home for showers and swimming before a mean game of Monopoly!

Success!

  1. I remember well my trip to Moab and those hikes! We also took the tour through the Devil’s Garden, and I remember how HOT it was, even in March!
