Shawnda and I lived in Lincoln City on the Oregon coast when we were first married. Our first home was our wedding gift to each other and was in my mind the best place we have lived, well the location was anyway.

One block from the beach in a small coastal town that thrives on only retirement and tourism is not a bad place to live.
In the time we lived here we never made it north on the coast to visit the Tillamook Creamery. Yesterday that all changed.

That’s a big cow. Making cheese may not seem like a very dramatic or exciting profession but in Tillamook they take it seriously and are very proud of it.

Of course we did not go just to see the cheese being made; did I forget to mention they also make some of the best ice cream on the planet.

Though this is not a huge creamery like you see in some parts of the industry it was quite impressive and I agree with there philosophy.
We’re Taking A Stand For Real Food. Because Everyone Deserves Better.
This is a farmer owned Co-op and they only take what they need to sustain there products. Refreshing and so is the ice cream.
Earlier in the day we visited the shortest light house on the Oregon coast. Impressive I know but you have to start somewhere.

If it had not been for the fog I am sure the view would have been breathtaking.

A good hike down to the cliff where the light house sits was in order as this is a popular spot with very little parking. Shawnda tried to save some trees on the way but did not succeed with all of them.

There was a major wind storm here last year and even nature works against its self sometimes. Many of the huge cedar and pines had been topped by the wind and unfortunate had to be cut to clear the road. I not sure what kind of wind will down a 6 foot diameter tree but I’m glad we were not there for that.

Shawnda and Addy wondering where the rest of the lighthouse is.
Impressive I know but it served its purpose of keeping ships off the rocks over the past 125 years. It sits 240 from the surface of the water that’s why it’s only 36 feet tall.
Our day ended with more clamming. Addy just had to get a razor clam tube that she had seen people using on the internet.

This thing is a lot more work than it looks like and we found that just digging with your hands produced better results. Alex and I were supervising. Came home with a handful of soft shells that we will eat tonight when we get a little further south to Lincoln City.
Beaches!
What fun you are having! Alex is so tall! Last time I saw him in person he was being wheeled around in a baby stroller! Bet those clams were good! The ice cream, too! You’ll have to try Fielder’s Choice when you are in Maine to compare coast to coast flavors!
