Wandering While Waiting

The campers still not ready, but we managed to have the best day yesterday! We got back out to Whidbey Island and Tim and Annamarie had the best day planned for us!

Tim and John headed out on the Sea Licious to go lake fishing. After a few fish getting off the hooks they managed to bring in a few Rainbow Trouts and the cutest cat fish ever!

While they were off enjoying a day on the water, Annamarie, Alex “Professor”, Addy “Roadrunner”, Andie, Gibbs and I had a fun day in the water!

This beach has an off-leash area for pups to play. Gibbs and Andie had a blast swimming and meeting new friends. These three bull dogs were so cute!

Both Andie and one of the Bullie pups helped Addy dig for clams, crabs and sand dollars.

The sand dollars were everywhere. Alex found a patch of them not too far from shore that must have contained hundreds of them!

Alex spent a lot of time walking in the water searching for sea creatures and found this beautiful clam.

And Andie practiced her swimming! Such a proud puppy mom day!

After most of us were wet and sandy we headed back to the house to clean up before heading to Coupeville for Ice Cream at Kawpaws Iskreme and then Admiralty Head Lighthouse and Fort Casey.

The kids enjoyed checking out Admiralty Head Lighthouse where we learned some of the history of the Fort and the Guns that used to protect the sound.

These guns (though not the originals) were loaded, lifted, and fired, the the recoil brought the cannon back down for reloading automatically. These guns were tested once a year in the early 1900’s until they were decommissioned.

The fort had many ammunition rooms, lookout stations, housing and a power plant.

The kids especially enjoyed venturing into the dark tunnels and the viewing towers, and checking out these smaller guns.

After all if this adventuring, we returned to the Voss Holla for a yummy dinner of tacos and salad, followed by dessert! A long day for all, but the tired puppies and kids, and reconnecting with old friends was so worth it!
