“Toto, I don’t think we are in Kansas any longer”

The last few days of our journey back onto US soil have been doused with amazing scenery and family time.

An easy AM breakfast on a day when we were out of water (3 days of camping in provincial parks) followed by vast farmlands and rolling mountainsides that reminded me of many trips through central California with my parents and sister to go camping.

We spent a night at this great hidden gem called “Big Canyon RV Park”, which was a little hard to get into but allowed us a quiet night to refill the water tank and get some needed showers after the kids took a swim in their heated pool. Addy even made her first campground friend which is a big step for her!

The following day we ventured further south in BC, Canada through the Fraser Canyon, where steep mountains touched down to the Fraser River.

Until now I have only seen the Fraser River where it actually reaches the sea, but I spent the entire ride just staring in awe at every bend in the road. I could have taken so many pictures if not for the bugs on the windows!

We stopped not too far from the bottom of the Canyon, at another great campground called “Canyon Alpine RV Park”. The new owners (only 16 months in) were so friendly, offering extra large otter pops for the kids and dog bones for Andie. They had a wonderful enclosed dog area for Andie to run in, and a playground that was suitable for kids and adults. Addy convinced me to go into the playhouse with her and play multiple games of corn hole. John and her played ladder golf and badminton.

We headed south the next morning after doing a little deeper cleaning of the camper, and crossed the boarder into the US before too long. That’s when I realized we weren’t in Kansas (aka Alaska/Canada) any longer…

Traffic, people in a hurry and rush hour traffic welcomed us back to reality. I’m now not sure how we lived here for 5 years. We made it to the dealer to drop the camper then went by our storage unit to offload some more items we don’t need to haul around with us, then headed further south to our hotel. After getting checked in, and the dog walked, we went off for dinner.

On the way, it took us 10 minutes to get through two lights. It used to take me 5 minutes to get to work in the morning (in Alaska). I’m thinking that this city stuff may be for the birds, and that cabin on the lake in the middle of a large piece of property that John’s been dreaming of, just might be the ticket!

  1. I’m sure it’s an awful shock to be in a city again! I hate going to Portland these days, as it is so congested! Mona and I are going camping the first weekend in August…haven’t done that in years and I’m pretty excited about it! Travel safe! LOVE traveling with you!
