Out the Window

When we traveled to England 2 years ago we were lucky enough to visit Shakespeare country. While there we visited Mary Arden’s farm the Shakespeare Museum and his house where he grew up.

Now most have not read Shakespeare’s writings or seen his plays; most I know anyway. If you have and have understood them I applaud you, you are far more cultured than me. However visiting these places turned into a one of the highlights of the trip for me, not for my own experience but for what I experienced there.

The above photo is one of my daughter looking out the window of Shakespeare’s bed room at his boyhood home. It looks out at the courtyard behind his house. I am quite certain he spent much time looking out this window given the indents in the floor created over time by the presence of someone standing there.

I did not see it at the time I took the picture but in looking at it later I could and can only ever wonder what she was thinking. Standing on the worn floorboards of one of the greatest writers in the world, what would you be thinking looking out that window?

Just in Case

Just in case your thinking that we are one of those; I’m going to sell all my stuff and live off the land, we are on a quest for enlightenment, we just don’t know what we want or a this will be so great we will be free kind of families. Think again.

You can’t live off the land unless your a squirrel and even then a hand out of McDonald’s fries doesn’t hurt. We are already enlightened; we got rid of all our stuff. And I think we know exactly what we want, we are doing it and that’s what makes us free.

Some of the most amazing things in this world will be gone some day. The forest, the monuments, the buffalo, the hills and prairie. I want to see them with my family before they are gone and you can’t do that in a vacuum!

Figuring It Out

We’ve been in the camper for about 10 days and there is still a lot of work to do. This morning I managed to unpack our one set of dishes. I found this really nice tree design by Corelle that I figure might actually make it out of Alaska in one piece. Figured I would see how it went before buying any more.

The design really made me think of nature and the purpose of this trip. We will see if my nonskid idea works to keep them from clanking together as we drive down the road.

We also got Addy’s hammock put up in the trees just outside the camper. Apparently I didn’t do a very good job checking the knots that were already tied in the lines, because not 15 minutes into her horsing around, it fell out of the tree. She’s pretty happy now however, pretending she can’t touch the ground which means everything she wants she gets someone else to get for her.

The Journey Begins

Thanks for joining us on our next life adventure!

This journey has been in the works for just over a year now when after going back and forth on whether to find a new job (since I was due to be laid off) or do something different, we decided on the something different option.

One night while sitting on our couch, surfing Facebook, my husband was sitting there laughing to himself. Of course, his laughter piqued my interest, and what he told me was “the people on this Full Time RV site were cracking him up”.  Now, my husband has been the cause of many adventures in our 16 years together, but Full Time RV’ing was not something I ever imagined would be in our future.  But, my interest in his laughter caused a movement in our household when I joined the same site and started to get interested in what this lifestyle would be like.

Seeing posts about families on the road, visiting places we only dreamed of, and making it all work in their travel trailer, 5th wheel or other RV made me start to wonder if this is something we could manage while we figured out where our feet would land next. Continue reading “The Journey Begins”
