Kicking Myself.

Lincoln City will always hold as a special place for me. It was really the start of a new life for me and there are many great memories I have of time spent when we lived here. And of course there are beaches here.

Just a short 58 mile drive was all we had yesterday which I’m sure was a relief to everyone. We got to town around 1330 and took care of a few things that we have been meaning to do for a bit, organizing and re arranging, that sort of thing. In a smaller living space everything has a place and if you have to put something on top of something else because there is no place to put it, its time to evaluate your space and the stuff in it.

On our way into town I mentioned that it would be great to find a lot of land to buy on the beach that we could put the RV on while we built a house. Or find a fixer upper and do the same. The Oregon coast would be a good place to do this as you can live in a RV here year round due to the fact they hardly ever get snow or even freezing temperatures. More about that later.

After settling in we headed for the beach that I have been promising Addy for over a week now. She was not disappointed.

It was not the sunniest of days but was a warm afternoon none the less and a good day for the beach.

I don’t remember town being so busy when we lived here. I think that many people used to drive by Lincoln City in search of the bigger towns along the coast or they were just passing through. Seems this is not the case now though it is nothing compared to Route 1 in the summer of the coastal Maine town I grew up in. This is a family blog so I won’t comment any more than that.

We returned to the camper for diner and the kids explored the campground a bit. Now as I said in a previous post, food and cooking is always part of a great adventure. Good food adds to the experience.

On the menu for the night was Halibut, Alaska caught by my awesome fisherman wife, BBQ Chicken, corn on the cob, Hawaiian rolls and soft shell clams (hand dug by the Gallup’s) in white wine and sweet pepper reduction sauce as an appetizer. The clams unfortunately did not turn out like I had hoped. They were quite sandy and I’m pretty sure the cook forgot to flush them before cooking them. I will take the hit for that one. Even with that there were a lot of empty plates, and no left overs which always makes a cook happy.

We decided to go for a drive after diner and look at a few lots of land that are for sale here in town that Shawnda had found on line. While on our way back we decided to stop at a spot on the beach we had been to when we lived here. It has tide pools, and you can drive right down on the beach if you want. I am not a big fan of getting stuck in the sand so we chose a nice paved free parking spot on the cliff.

The kids had a blast and I kept Andie fairly clean in comparison to when we went clamming. I think I must have forgotten to mention that one of the lures of Lincoln City beaches is you can find agates right in the sand. Shawnda and I used to walk the beach everyday when we lived here looking for them. We have a jar with probably 200 that we found.

Addy ran up to Shawnda and I asking what this was. Her first agate! Took her all of 2 minutes to find it. I guess her eyes are better than mine because I don’t remember finding my first one for a couple of months.

Exploring the tide pools.

Alex’s prehistoric find, a Chiton. He said it looks like a pair of dentures in the rock. That kid has a great imagination.

When you poke the anemones they grab your finger. There are old stories of divers becoming entangled it the giant ones and drowning.

When talking about our old home in Lincoln City I always say ” I kick myself for ever selling that house” well I don’t feel any different today.

It was an incredible evening for everyone and we all came home with a treasure from the beach.
