You’re just going to have to wait!

“Take the two words ‘fuming’ and ‘furious’. Make up your mind that you will say both words, but leave it unsettled which you will say first. Now open your mouth and speak. If your thoughts incline ever so little towards ‘fuming’, you will say ‘fuming-furious’; if they turn, by even a hair’s breadth, towards ‘furious’, you will say ‘furious-fuming’; but if you have the rarest of gifts, a perfectly balanced mind, you will say ‘fruminous’. “

We are finally back in the saddle and moving again. We picked up the carouse ( camper house) yesterday evening and made a bullet run for Kelso Washington. There was no room to be found on the Olympic Peninsula so plans to visit there changed as they often do with travel.

This morning we said goodbye to Washington, a place we called home before our move to Alaska. We revisited some places that brought back fond memories of Alex’s early childhood and shared time with some of our greatest friends. Farewell for now but I feel we will be back again for a visit.

We traversed the great Columbia river ending where it meets the sea in Astoria, OR.

Shawnda and I have both sailed on ships in and out of this historic town and have been lucky enough to travel the Columbia’s lengths to the convergence of the Snake River and on from there to Lewiston. The same USCG cutters that call this town home still sit at the ready at the pier we used to visit once a week.

We skirted the coast of the great Pacific through the tall pines of the mountains and through the beach front towns.

The beaches in Oregon hold no equal in my mind but we will get to that later, you will just have to wait. This day was an enjoyable drive and ended with a great hike and some impromptu clamming by Addy and Andie.

Alex even got a little dirty!

The bay at Tillamook is humbling and eerie. With the fog rolling by and the tide out, the silence of the ocean can be heard.

Tomorrow it is on to cheese, lighthouses and maybe we will actually find some clams for dinner.
