I’m going to admit that I had no idea the Rockies went all the way to Canada. I somehow thought they only lasted through the lower 48 and then were called something else once they hit the border. I wasn’t great at geography.
The last few days we have transitioned from more flat lands into the Northern Rockies and it is beautiful! Having lived in south central Alaska the last few years, I got used to the mountain scenery and expected to not be as awed by the rest of Alaska and Canada as I have been.
Going down to Skagway reminded me of the very unique mountain ranges that kiss the sea with rolling shorelines covered in lichen.

Transiting from Takhini Hot Springs to Watson Lake, then onto Liard Hot Springs and Muncho Lake brought different scenery and, finally, my wildlife Safari!
Bears dotted the roadside, just munching away on grasses and other greens while cars drove by.

And Buffalo roamed in singles, pairs and herds as we stopped to grab a photo. Luckily most of the other drivers are interested in these wild creatures as much as we are. Only once did we feel like someone was upset that we were stopped to take a look.

It is so amazing to see that there are still some places that wild creatures are flourishing.
The scenery at Muncho lake is breathtaking, with jade water and mountains covered with interesting rock formations and greenery. We took some time to get caught up on laundry, finances and ate a scrumptious dinner at the Northern Rockies Lodge.

John, being who he is, got up early and did some greatly needed maintenance on the truck. Rotating tires, adding DEF and loading the containers of fuel in the tank. He also flushed all of the holding tanks and did a little vacuuming of two weeks worth of dog hair from the truck while I wrapped up laundry and got the kids and inside of the camper ready to head out.

Our farewell to Muncho Lake was this sole Caribou who was licking salt from the road (or so we think), and these beautiful mountains and windy passes. We are slowly making our way south, and enjoying every bit that we can as we know the scenery will be ever changing.
