Ringing the Bell

Food is probably one of the things I am looking forward to the most on our upcoming adventure. It is a huge part of life and if you limit trying new things to eat you might as well stay home and munch on some cardboard.

Most people associate trying different foods with traveling abroad. Well this is not the case and some of the best ethnic and diverse culinary experiences can be found right here in the US of A. A simple one is fried chicken. Since KFC is just a fried dough ball with at best a chicken nugget in the middle it is hard for most people to fathom that fried chicken, real fried chicken can be better than the best Kobi beef in the world. Don’t believe me.

There is a diner in North Vancouver BC that serves a special called Jonny’s Fried Chicken. If your ever there try it and tell me I’m wrong. It takes 30-45 mins to prepare made from scratch and is the best I have ever had, but I know there is better to be had. I can’t wait!

Though there are many types of food we will want to try while we travel to different places we will not be eating out all the time as it’s an added expense and let’s face it it’s boring and I fancy myself a pretty good cook. So we will have to pick and choose what we want to try when we do dine out.

Camp cooking is some of the best food you can have. For one it’s usually cooked out side. From the most basic,

Too a full blown Hawaiian pig roast,

Ribs on the grill,

Or filet and lobster tails from my neighbors gourmet kitchen

Or if you just need an afternoon snack,

Bacon alfresco on a stick, yes that is what it looks like.

We can make it all and more (I just don’t have pictures of it all because it gets eaten). Food is one of the most amazing experiences you can have and most of them are positive ones. I can’t wait for us to not only try new foods but to make some of the new foods we try parts of our life and prepare them ourselves.

I have found since moving out of our home into or RV in preparation to start our trip, meal times have been more fun and engaging for the kids. Yes of course this is probably due to us having more time to cook and spend with them but something else has changed also. Not sure yet what it is but I hope the trend continues.

Here is to great food with family and friends so ring the dinner bell and they will all come running.
